Cannabis and aging: 12 ways marijuana keeps you looking and feeling young

Emily Gray Brosious

Cannabis is quite a plant.

The very fact that cannabis use activates an entire system of cannabinoid receptors inside the human body that regulate mental and physical health is downright amazing.

Many researchers believe the body’s endocannabinoid system, named after the plant that led to its discovery, is a key reason why cannabis may treat and alleviate so many health maladies.

The endocannabinoid system has been linked to a growing number of bodily functions in recent years, and according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, modulating endocannabinoid activity may hold great promise for a range of diseases and health conditions, including:

“Mood and anxiety disorders, movement disorders such as Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease, neuropathic pain, multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury, to cancer, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, stroke, hypertension, glaucoma, obesity/metabolic syndrome, and osteoporosis, to name just a few.”

The health and wellness benefits of cannabis appear extensive, and taken together, may help maintain mind and body youthfulness.
