Illinois’ medical cannabis program is growing slowly but surely. Forty dispensaries are already operating across the state, and number 41 is slated to open this week.
Patient numbers have been steadily rising. And with the recent addition of terminal illness and post-traumatic stress disorder to Illinois’ list of qualifying conditions , patient numbers are likely to grow more rapidly in coming months.
As of Aug. 3, 2016, the Illinois Department of Public Health had approved 8,891 qualifying patients, according to program data .
Medical cannabis sales in the state totaled more than $2.9 million during the month of July alone, with approximately $1.8 million in dry flower sales and $1.2 million in concentrates and infused products.
